As human beings we live in a reality where, unfortunately, very few things are ever guaranteed.
Human beings are a contradiction. On one hand, we are tremendously strong, powerful, unstoppable, and limitless. But, on the other hand, we are also incredibly fragile in lots of different ways.
There are a lot of factors, circumstances, and situations that we just cannot control.
Not much can be guaranteed. Sadly, you can lose every external thing, item, status, or relationship in your life.
But, luckily, there is one thing that you can control, something you always have influence over: yourself. Your Only Guarantee is yourself—the effort, energy, tenacity, and determination that you bring to the table.
Your circumstances, situations, relationships, health, and good fortune are never guaranteed. Therefore, the effort and positivity that you bring to your life are the only certainty you will ever have.
This is a powerful truth that I first realized through meditation. As of right now, I have been practicing meditation every single day for 6 years straight since the beginning of 2013.
Meditation transformed my entire life. Since I started in 2013, I have found myself, connected with my life’s true purpose as a motivational content creator, totally gave up drinking alcohol in 2014, and became a vegetarian in 2017. In the past 6 years, I have been more productive, happy, creative, and at peace with myself than ever before.
They have been the best years of my life!
But this transformation in my life did not occur because my outside circumstances changed.
I have lots of great people in my life. But there wasn’t any person who swooped in to save me from self-destruction or to guide me to the correct path for my life.
The only thing that changed in my life was me, myself, my thoughts, my mentalities, my habits, my energy, my emotions, and my actions. My external circumstances transformed, because I changed internally. The change had to start from inside, from within.
Through dealing with the amazing ups and the horrible downs of life over the course of the past 6 years—and finding peace, joy, creativity, clarity, and courage within myself through meditation every day—I have realized that the Only Guarantee I’ve ever had in my life was myself: my emotions, energy, feelings, determination, effort, and willingness to move forward.
I’ve never been able to guarantee success, results, positive outcomes, and victory. But I can guarantee that I will show up and give my absolute BEST in every situation for every single opportunity that I have.
In order to do that, I had to use meditation to take control of my consciousness.
And that is the message that I want you to walk away from this blog post with: take control of your mind! Take control of your emotions, consciousness, energy, and effort.
Stop allowing the world to control how you feel and how you think internally.
Because how you feel, the emotions you experience, and the effort that you bring to the table are Your Only Guarantee In Life.
You can take control of your consciousness through meditation like I did, or through other positive habits like fitness, journaling, nutrition, or reading books. Once you do take control of your mind and your emotions, as opposed to allowing them to control you, you can guarantee that you show up and deliver your BEST effort in every situation you are in.
There isn’t much else in life that you can control.
You can’t control circumstances you were born into, the neighborhood you were born into, the situations you grew up in, or the family that brought you into the world. You can’t control whether or not you wound up with loving, caring, and compassionate parents or abusive, cynical, toxic, or drug-addicted family members. You can’t control who your siblings or relatives are. And you couldn’t control your family’s finances, your ethnicity, your gender, or any other conditions you were born into.
You can’t control any of those circumstances. But you can control yourself.
And unfortunately, no matter how amazing life gets for you, there is always a chance that you could lose it all.
You can lose relationships, friendships, romantic partners, and family ties. You can lose material wealth, money, and financial prosperity.
And as we have witnessed over and over again—especially with the downfall of huge celebrities in the recent news—it just does not matter how much material success, fame, followers, status, and power you attain in your lifetime. You can lose it all.
And sadly, you can lose your health.
The ONLY thing that the world can never take from you is the positive emotion that you feel within yourself every single day: your effort, your drive, hustle, energy, grind, tenacity, determination, courage, positivity, and will to move forward.
That is Your Only Guarantee.
So with that in mind, it’s important to focus on changing yourself versus trying to change the outside world.
Don’t try to change the situations. Change YOURSELF, first.
Don’t try to change the amount of money in your bank account or change the amount of material things that you possess. Focus on changing yourself first.
Don’t try to change your spouse, friends, children, colleagues, business partners, or the people in your life. Focus on changing yourself first.
As their reactions and responses to you shift, your relationships will change for the better. And you’ll even start to attract new people into your life who match your energy.
Don’t try to change your career situation, job opportunities, or direction in life. Change yourself first. Then your career opportunities will change.
Once your boss or employer sees a difference in you, they will be inspired to offer you a better opportunity within your company. Once your customers see that shift within you, they’ll be inspired to buy from you or stay loyal to your company. And may even feel inspired to pursue amazing new career opportunities that you never thought of before. You may even find your life’s purpose, just like I did.
Don’t try to change the world, change yourself first.
Because as rapper J. Cole once said, “the only real change comes from inside.” (See more J. Cole quotes)
Once you take control of—the only guarantee—your consciousness, emotions, and energy, you’ll be able to thrive in any situation that life throws your way!
