Coronavirus spread and death rate

1. More than 132,000 coronavirus cases worldwide have been reported to WHO.

2. The virus has spread to 123 different countries and territories. 

3. Europe has more cases and deaths than the rest of the world combined, excluding China. 

4. Over the past two weeks, cases within China have increased 13-fold while the number of affected counties tripled. 

5. The global death rate is about 3.4%. 

6. In comparison, the seasonal flu kills fewer than 1% globally. 

7. There are currently 1,215 reported cases in the U.S.

14. Four new areas (French Polynesia, Turkey, Honduras, and Côte d’Ivoire) have reported cases in the last 24 hours, as of March 12th. 

15. More than 440 million U.S. dollars has been pledged to WHO’s Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan. 

16. WHO has shipped about 1.5 million diagnostic tests to 120 countries. 

17. President Trump declared a national state of emergency on Friday, March 13th. 

How to prevent coronavirus and symptoms

18. Symptoms such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath may appear anywhere from 2-14 days after exposure to coronavirus. 

19. If you experience any emergency warning signs, including difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, persistent pain or pressure in the chest, new confusion or inability to arouse, or bluish lips or face, you should get medical attention immediately. 

20. CDC recommends that the best way you can prevent it is to avoid being exposed. 

21. One of the best ways to combat the virus is to wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or after blowing your nose, sneezing, or coughing. 

22. If you don’t have soap and water readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. 

23. The virus spreads mainly from person to person. 

24. If coronavirus is spreading within your community, it’s best to distance yourself from other people. In other words, limit time in, if not avoid, public places. 

25. Avoid close contact with people who are sick. 

26. If you are not sick, you don’t need to wear a facemask unless you’re caring for someone who is and they can’t wear a facemask. 

What to do if you are sick from the coronavirus

27. If you’re sick, stay home. Only leave to receive medical care. 

28. Wear a facemask if you are sick, when you are around other people. 

29. Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Then, immediately wash your hands. 

30. Frequently touched surfaces should be cleaned and disinfected daily. This includes toilets, sinks, countertops, faucets, keyboards, and phones.
